Junior Achievement Volunteer Teaching

Five weeks ago, I embarked on a little adventure as a Junior Achievement volunteer teacher in Ms. Kuhn’s 6th Grade Social Studies class at Kingsview Middle School in Germantown, MD. We learned about matching careers to interests, skills and values; we learned about budgeting; we learned about debit and credit cards; and, we learned about the importance of insurance. Mostly, we learned these topics through playing games designed to make the students aware and to show them that we are often confronted with trade-offs and risks. The students learned a lot and were sad that our course came to an end.
The experience was tremendously rewarding and I recommend being a volunteer. Below is a link where you can locate the JA Office nearest to you.
